keeping comfy

If you have seasonal affective disorder or any type of depressive disorder, creature comforts can play a role in helping you feel as well as possible. One way to stay comfortable during the winter months is to set up humidifiers in your home, especially in bedrooms.

For years I'd end up with itchy, dry skin during the winter because the heat would make the air very dry. Granted, a little dry skin won't make or break your mood ... then again, it might. Knowing that depression can affect how we feel physically, it seems reasonable to me that every little thing we can do to keep ourselves feeling comfortable will help lift our mood. Things like fluffy socks or slippers, massage, and -- yes -- even adequate levels of hydration can make the winter months a little more bearable. Every little bit does count!

You can purchase humidifiers at any local stores that sell small home appliances. Or you can look around at Amazon for a good deal on a home humidifier:

In addition to running a humidifier in your home, think about how many glasses of water you drink during the day. Again, it may seem like a simple or silly thing, but even slight dehydration can make you fatigued and slightly nauseated or give you a headache -- all things we can do without. So make sure you get at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you exercise or drink several drinks that contain caffeine, you need more than 8 glasses a day.

Staying comfortable this winter can help you feel better. Be good to yourself!
